Dear colleagues!

On September 22–24, 2022, the VII International Buturlin Readings will be held in Ulyanovsk. The conference is dedicated to the 150th anniversary of the famous Russian ornithologist, hunter, specialist in hunting weapons, explorer of the North, member of the Russian Geographical Society, one of the founders of the environmental movement in Russia, Sergei Aleksandrovich Buturlin (22.09.1872-22.01.1938). Also, this conference is timed to coincide with the 20th anniversary of the Buturlin Readings (the first took place in 2002).

The Ulyanovsk Regional Museum of Local Lore holds a unique archive of the scientist, which includes documents, photographs, a library, collections and has more than 7,000 items. Part of the archive is exhibited in the Buturlinskaya room of the museum, dedicated to the eminent countryman.

Specialists and scientists of universities, employees of museums and organizations involved in the study of natural resources, students, hunters, ornithologists, zoologists are invited to participate in the conference.

The conference program includes plenary and breakout sessions and a round table on key topics:

• Unknown pages of the life and work of S.A. Buturlin;

• The role of protected areas in the study and conservation of avifauna;

• Rational use of wildlife and the state of hunting bird species;

• Modern methods of wildlife research;

• Museum and private ornithological collections (carcasses and stuffed birds, nests and masonry, ptilological, osteological, etc.) of Russia and abroad;

• Ornithological and environmental projects of the Russian Geographical Society;

• The problem of rapid spread and population growth of an active ichthyophagous species, the great cormorant (Phalacrocorax carbo), in the Middle and Lower Volga regions and a number of other regions of Russia (from Resolution VI of the Buturlin Readings);

• Popularization of ornithology and ecological education of the population.

As part of the conference, a field trip to the ecological trail of the National Park "Sengileevskiye Gory" is planned.

Applications for participation in the conference

To participate in the conference, you must fill out and send an application to the address of the organizing committee before June 1, 2022: uokm_priroda@mail.ru. In response to the application, you will be sent a personal invitation with additional information (requirements for the design of articles, an approximate program of the conference, details about possible options for accommodation and meals).

The Organizing Committee reserves the right to reject submitted applications.

Publication of conference materials

Based on the results of the conference, a collection of materials will be published. Articles (volume up to 10 pages) are sent to the email address of the organizing committee before November 1, 2022 or are provided during the readings. Publication in the collection is free. The publication will be included in the RSCI scientometric database.

Payment of expenses

Meals (lunch, coffee breaks), excursions and accommodation are at the expense of the host. Travel is at the expense of the directing party.
